A partnership project between Ausbildungsverbund Teltow (AVT), the Karume Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), and the Zanzibar Association of Tourism Investors (ZATI)
Zanzibar is facing a dual challenge: access to clean water is limited in many areas, and there is a significant shortage of skilled professionals to address the issue. At the same time, tourism is booming, requiring sustainable infrastructure and local know-how.
We are developing new training curricula for water technicians – together with public and private stakeholders. A strong emphasis is placed on gender equality and modern teaching methods.
High-quality training depends on qualified instructors. We provide targeted further training for instructors and master trainers who act as multipliers. Special efforts are made to support and empower women in technical education.
Everyone has a role to play in water management – especially in tourism. Through targeted workshops, videos, and information campaigns, we are raising awareness for the responsible use of water and identifying the skillsets needed for new professions.

AVT is an experienced German training provider with a strong focus on technical professions. It brings practical expertise and years of international project experience to the partnership – especially in curriculum development and instructor training.

ZATI represents key stakeholders in Zanzibar’s tourism industry. The organization ensures that the voices of the private sector are heard and integrated into the project, especially regarding workforce needs and sustainable growth.

As a leading technical training institution in Zanzibar, KIST contributes its extensive experience in vocational education. It develops curricula and learning formats tailored to local needs in water and wastewater technology.
Public training institutions in Zanzibar will provide young people with labor market-relevant qualifications that are urgently needed in the private sector – especially in tourism.
